Choose by Route, Not by the ATV Label
The Kīpū Ranch tours covered here are guided side-by-side UTV outings on private ranch roads. The two current options share the same basic commitment: three hours and ages 9 and older. Kīpū lists the Ultimate Ranch Tour and Waterfall Trail Expedition rates as season-variable and excludes taxes, fees, and add-ons, so check your date before comparing the final total.
The difference is in how those three hours feel. The waterfall route covers nearly twice the mileage and includes a waterfall stop. The ranch route has fewer activity stops, so it feels more driving-focused even though it covers less ground. I’d book the Ultimate Ranch Tour for ranch history and movie-location backdrops; I’d book the Waterfall Trail Expedition for the longer route, short waterfall hike, and weather-dependent swim.
Ultimate Ranch Tour: Fewer Activity Stops
The Ultimate Ranch Tour moves through Kīpū Ranch pastures, Hulēʻia Valley, rainforest, bamboo, and movie backdrops. Kīpū describes it as a stop-and-go scenic route with less downtime than the waterfall option. The tour uses Kawasaki Teryx4 vehicles that seat up to four.
I’d choose this for a first off-road tour or for a group that wants the ranch without adding a waterfall hike. It also makes more sense if the waterfall swim is uncertain and your group would rather focus on the ranch ride.
Waterfall Trail Expedition: More Ground, Optional Swim
The Waterfall Trail Expedition combines all three ranch trail systems and runs nearly twice the mileage of the Ultimate Ranch Tour. The waterfall stop includes an optional walk of about 75 meters down uneven ground and back up. Guests who skip the walk can view the waterfall from above.
The waterfall is not a fixed promise. Kīpū says heavy rain can make swimming unsafe, while dry weather can reduce the flow. I’d pick this route only if the longer ride matters to your group and you can accept a changed swim plan.
Vehicle and Group Math
The Teryx4 is available on both tours. Up to two eligible drivers can switch at designated stops.
The Mule Pro-FXT keeps a larger party together, but Kīpū offers it only on the Waterfall Trail Expedition and asks groups to call.
A solo-driver Teryx rate is listed separately. Check the booking calendar for the current total before you pay.

The Rules That Can Change the Booking
- Passengers must be at least 9. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and a legal guardian must complete the waiver.
- Drivers must be at least 18 with a physical, full driver's license. Kīpū does not accept a phone image, scanned copy, learner's permit, or provisional license for driving.
- Covered closed-toe shoes are required. They remain required during the waterfall activity.
- Pregnant guests cannot participate. Recent surgery and serious neck, back, knee, or other health conditions may also rule out the ride.
- Limited mobility does not automatically rule it out. The operator says a guest may join if they can transfer from a wheelchair with limited help. Wheelchairs and walkers cannot travel in the UTV; a cane or walking stick can.
- Rain is normal. Tours generally run in rain, but Kīpū may cancel for heavy rain or unsafe conditions. Read the current FAQ and participation policy before booking for the whole family.
Arrival and Packing
Kīpū's current FAQ asks most guests to arrive 20 minutes before the reserved time; its accessibility guidance recommends 30 minutes for a guest needing mobility assistance. Check-in is at 235 Kipu Road in Līhuʻe, about seven miles or 20 minutes from Līhuʻe Airport according to the operator. I would not schedule this as an airport-day sprint; a late group can miss the departure.
Bring a reusable water bottle, a credit card for the vehicle file, dark clothing that can take red-dirt stains, and a case for anything exposed to dust or water. For the waterfall route, wear a swimsuit under your clothes and bring a towel and full change. Helmets and goggles are supplied. Drones are prohibited, and the check-in site does not provide personal storage.
