Mahukona Beach Park: Access and Facilities

Located within the Kohala Region on Big Island

Mahukona Wharf — confirm access

The County's March 17, 2026 update listed Mahukona Wharf as closed after a storm. Confirm current wharf access with County Parks before visiting; do not assume it has reopened. Do not plan on ladder or pier entry while wharf access is unconfirmed. Follow barriers and posted warnings, stay back from waves and wet rocks, and choose a beach with a lifeguard on duty for swimming or snorkeling.

The County's January 24, 2025 notice said camping remained suspended because potable water, restrooms and showers were unavailable after the pavilion demolition. Bring water, arrange restroom stops elsewhere, and confirm current facilities and camping rules with County Parks.

Follow posted parking and access restrictions. Keep gates and access routes clear, and skip the stop if you cannot park legally.

The current County closure list no longer names Mahukona Wharf, but does not provide a reopening notice. The beach park's January 2025 day-use reopening announcement does not establish current wharf access. Before making plans, contact County Parks at 808-961-8311 and check its current closure notices.

Read the March 2026 County storm update, January 2025 facilities notice, and current County closure list. For ocean activities, follow the state's shoreline-safety guidance and lifeguarded-beach advice.
