The Pololu Valley lookout is at the end of Highway 270 in North Kohala. The lookout can be the whole visit. Hike only if you are prepared for a steep descent and the climb back.
DLNR lists the public Pololū Trail as 0.6 mile one way to the shoreline. It can be slippery. Wear proper shoes, carry drinking water and check current trail alerts before visiting. Do not expect restrooms at Pololū or rely on cell coverage for help.
At Pololu Valley Beach, stay out of the ocean and stream. Strong currents, dangerous shorebreak and flash flooding are hazards here. Do not swim or wade, even if the water looks calm.
Stay on the public trail and beach access. The valley includes private land and culturally sensitive burial areas. Stay off the dunes, leave rocks in place and pack out your trash.
Trail day tools
Before you drive to the trailhead, check the trail and weather layer.
