Hāʻena State Park and the Kalalau Trail reopened on April 14, 2026 after a month-long closure caused by back-to-back Kona low storms in March. The GoHaena reservation system and shuttle service have resumed, and the trail is fully accessible to permitted hikers.
The March storms triggered landslides that shut down sections of the trail between Hanakoa Valley and Kalalau Beach. For several weeks, nobody was hiking past Keʻe Beach. That chapter is closed. If you are planning a summer visit, the park is open and running — but you still need to understand the reservation system, shuttle logistics, and permit requirements before you book anything.
