The HawaiiGuide Read: The most reliable bed in Hilo — on the bay along Banyan Drive, walkable to Liliʻuokalani Gardens, with ratings around 4.1 that need Hilo context to read right: this is a simple-lodging town, not a resort coast, and the Hilo Hawaiian is its steadiest performer. Bay-view rooms looking toward Mauna Kea are the ones to book.
Best for: the one- or two-night east-side base — Volcanoes National Park, the waterfall coast, and a Mauna Kea evening all stage well from here. Skip it if: you're expecting west-side resort standards; Hilo doesn't do those, at any price.
