Aloha y'all. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are some of the few days each year when Hawaii travel gets meaningfully cheaper, and most of the savings show up on three categories: airfare from the U.S. West Coast, big-brand hotel rooms in shoulder weeks, and packaged flight-plus-hotel bundles. Airlines and hotel chains tend to coordinate their biggest sales of the year around the U.S. holiday shopping window, and Hawaii inventory rides that calendar with the rest of the country.

Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27, and Cyber Monday is Monday, November 30. The day in between matters too: many travel brands now run a "Travel Tuesday" sale on Tuesday, December 1, 2026, and it has become its own thing — The Points Guy covers it as one of the best days of the year for booking award flights and packaged travel. Treat the window as four days, not one.

This guide is the playbook I wish someone had handed me before I started actually paying attention to that calendar. What to watch, what to ignore, where to set alerts, and the categories that almost never go on sale no matter what your inbox tells you.

Late November sits in Hawaii's softest travel window of the year. Visitor arrivals dip in the weeks between Labor Day and the December holiday surge — DBEDT visitor data shows September and October as the lowest-volume months on the calendar, and early November is barely above them. Hotels in that window have empty rooms to sell. Airlines have West Coast seats to fill before December locks up.

So when retail decided in the early 2010s that the whole U.S. economy would run a four-day sale the weekend after Thanksgiving, Hawaii travel got pulled into it. The discounts you see in late November aren't really about Black Friday — they're about empty seats and empty rooms in the late-November-through-mid-December trough, marketed under the holiday banner because that's the inbox people open.

Flights are the single biggest dollar line on most Hawaii trips, and they're also the category where Black Friday and Cyber Monday do the most work. Watch four carriers in particular.

Hawaiian Airlines has run an annual Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale for years (their own newsroom documents the pattern). Fares from the U.S. West Coast (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix) get discounted for winter and spring shoulder-season travel, plus interisland fares for the same window. Check Hawaiian's deals page the morning of Black Friday — they have historically gone live overnight Pacific time. With Hawaiian now in the Oneworld alliance as of April 2026, following Alaska's September 2024 acquisition, expect more cross-promotion with Alaska and American as the integration rolls out.

Alaska Airlines typically runs its own Black Friday flash on West Coast routes to Honolulu, Maui, Kona, and Lihue, and those sales sometimes price below Hawaiian's. Alaska's parent company now owns Hawaiian, so the two carriers' sale calendars line up tighter than they used to. Watch Alaska's deals page on the same morning.

Southwest Airlines still flies Hawaii routes from Oakland, San Diego, Las Vegas, Sacramento, San Jose, Phoenix, and Long Beach, and still participates in late-November sales. One thing to know: Southwest ended its longstanding "Bags Fly Free" policy for reservations made or changed on or after May 28, 2025, so the historical bag-cost edge no longer applies to most fares. Check current bag fees on Southwest's site before you stack a fare comparison against Hawaiian or Alaska.

JustFly and the other flight OTAs surface "Hawaii flights from $XXX" landing pages the same morning. Their value is the head-to-head view across carriers in one search. JustFly's Hawaii flights page is a quick read on what the market is offering on any given day. Comparison shop, then book directly with the airline you choose — it gives you better rebooking control if the schedule changes.

Hotels behave a little differently than flights. The headline "Black Friday hotel sale" usually means a brand-wide rate drop off best available rates on stays for a specific future window (typically January through April). On a Hawaii room, even a modest percentage cut is real money — published rates at the big resort properties run high year-round.

The four big chain families to watch are Marriott Bonvoy (Sheraton Waikiki, Westin Maui, Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Ritz-Carlton O'ahu Turtle Bay, Wailea Beach Resort, the Royal Hawaiian, Moana Surfrider, plus Autograph Collection properties on every island), Hilton Honors (Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hilton Waikoloa Village; note that the former Hapuna Beach Prince was rebranded as the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort under Marriott back in 2018 — flag changes do happen, so always check the current brand before booking), Hyatt (Andaz Maui at Wailea, Grand Hyatt Kauai), and IHG (Holiday Inn Express Waikiki, plus the InterContinental brand has limited Hawaii presence).

The cleanest play is to sign up for the loyalty program before the sale starts. Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, and IHG One Rewards memberships are free, and the Black Friday rates are usually member-only. You don't need elite status — the entry level gets you access. Then the morning of Black Friday, check the brand's dedicated promotion page (Marriott's runs at marriott.com/specials; Hilton's at the Honors offers page). Lock in by Cyber Monday.

OTAs run their own sales on top of the brand sales. Expedia publishes a Cyber Week banner that typically stacks coupon codes on top of already-promoted hotel rates, and they're often better than Hilton's or Marriott's direct rate on properties that aren't part of those brand families (boutiques, condos, smaller independents). Booking.com runs its own Genius-rate sale window during the same days — useful for independents and condos that don't show on Expedia. Always cross-shop the brand site against the OTA. The cheaper number wins; the dollar difference is yours.

One quiet pattern I've seen for years: vacation rentals discount less than hotels during BFCM. Vrbo and Airbnb hosts set their own rates and most don't participate in the holiday discount calendar at all. If you were planning to book a condo or vacation rental, you'll usually get a better deal by booking 6+ months ahead on shoulder dates than by waiting for Black Friday. The exception is property managers running multi-unit inventory — those sometimes do site-wide November promos.

This is the part of the playbook I have to write in plain English because the marketing fog around it is thick: rental cars in Hawaii do not meaningfully discount on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

The reason is structural. Hawaii rental car inventory has been tight since the pandemic-era fleet sell-offs, and the major brands (Hertz, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, National, Alamo, Thrifty, Dollar) make their margin on yield management — pricing each day's available cars to what the market will bear — not on flash sales. You'll see "Black Friday rental car deals" in promo emails. The discount is usually a small trim on a published rate that was already well above the broker-negotiated rate available year-round through Discount Hawaii Car Rental or Costco Travel.

So the real Black Friday move on rental cars is: don't wait for it. Lock in a broker rate now for your planned travel dates, and re-check it monthly. Brokers don't charge cancellation fees, so you can hold a rate and let it ride. If a real BFCM deal does undercut your held quote, switch. It almost never does. Packaged flight-plus-hotel deals — and especially flight-plus-hotel-plus-car bundles — are where the late-November window actually moves the most dollars. Same reason the airlines and hotels coordinate their sales: each piece moves a little, but when you bundle them with a packaged operator, the discounts compound. Expedia, Costco Travel, and the airline-direct package arms (Hawaiian Airlines Vacations, Alaska Vacations, Pleasant Holidays) typically run their deepest bundle sale of the year on Travel Tuesday — the day after Cyber Monday.

The math works in your favor. A January package that bundles round-trip airfare from the West Coast, six nights at a Waikiki or Wailea hotel, and a midsize rental car for two travelers can land well below the same components booked separately at full price. If you're flexible on dates, look at January, February, and March 2027 travel, not Thanksgiving week or December holidays. Those holiday weeks rarely discount during BFCM because the airlines and hotels already know they'll sell out. The Black Friday sale is selling you the soft weeks of the next year, not the holiday weeks of this year.

The following categories rarely discount on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, and the emails that say otherwise are almost always trying to move inventory that isn't actually cheaper than its year-round rate:

Tours and activities. Helicopter flights, luaus, snorkel cruises, Pearl Harbor tours, Road to Hana guided trips, and the rest of the bookable activity inventory generally hold prices year-round. Viator occasionally surfaces a sitewide percent-off code during Cyber Monday, but it's the exception, not the rule. Book tours on quality and availability, not on the sale calendar.

Travel insurance. Travelex, InsureMyTrip, and SquareMouth all price as a percentage of trip cost. Trip insurance doesn't discount; you just pay less because your bundle costs less. Cut your trip cost 20% in the Black Friday sale and your insurance line drops 20% on its own.

Peak holiday weeks. Hotels in Hawaii for Christmas week (December 22–January 2) and Presidents Day weekend rarely discount during the November sale window because they already know they'll sell out at full rate. If you want to be in Hawaii for Christmas, book early — not on Cyber Monday.

The Hawaii deals window opens late November and the smartest planning starts in October. Here's the calendar I keep.

Mid-October: Decide travel dates. January through April 2027 is where the deepest Black Friday discounts land. Pick a flexible 7-to-10-day window in that range and commit to it before sale day — last-minute date decisions during a flash sale lose money.

Late October: Sign up for the loyalty programs you don't already have. Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, World of Hyatt, IHG One Rewards. All free. All needed for the member-only BFCM rates.

First week of November: Set Google Flights price alerts on your top three routes from your home airport. Set them for the date window you committed to. The alert emails will tell you what "normal" pricing looks like a few weeks out, which is your reference point for whether the Black Friday number is actually a deal.

The week of Thanksgiving: Watch the airline deals pages on Wednesday, November 25, 2026. Some carriers tee up their Black Friday fares a day early.

Black Friday, November 27: Airline sales typically go live overnight Pacific time. Check by 6 a.m. HST. Lock in flights first — that's the largest dollar line. Hotel sales tend to run all weekend, so flights are the time-sensitive piece.

Cyber Monday, November 30: Hotel brand sales and OTA sales peak today. Book your room.

Travel Tuesday, December 1: Package bundles, award-flight redemptions, and cruise lines (NCL's Pride of America runs Hawaii year-round — see our Hawaii cruise guide) typically run their deepest day. If you're cruising or bundling, this is the day.

One last thing, and this is the part I rarely see in deal-roundup articles. The Black Friday playbook above assumes you want to come during the shoulder months. If you're already locked into traveling during Christmas, New Year's, spring break, or peak summer, the November sales aren't going to help you much. Those weeks are priced on demand, and demand for them doesn't soften because the calendar says Cyber Monday.

For peak weeks, the better savings come from booking 9–12 months ahead, picking shoulder days at the edges of the holiday window (December 17–22 reads as Christmas-adjacent but prices much lower), or using Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska miles — both of which run their best award redemption windows during Travel Tuesday. Hawaii rewards patient planners. The Black Friday window is real and it's worth being awake for, but the trip that ends up cheapest is almost always the one you started thinking about six months earlier.
