Count the breakfasts you will use before paying more for a Hawaii hotel package. A five-night stay can include an early outing and a departure morning when you leave before breakfast service. Start with those mornings, then compare the price.
Price the same stay two ways
Compare room-only and breakfast-inclusive quotes for the same dates, guests, room and cancellation terms. Include lodging taxes and mandatory charges in both totals. The difference is the package premium.
For a hypothetical five-night stay for two adults, assume the room-only total is $2,000 and the breakfast package is $2,200. Calculate this example’s premium as $2,200 − $2,000 = $200. These are invented planning inputs, not current hotel rates. The Lodging Cost Calculator can start your estimate; replace it with actual quotes before deciding.
Count each person’s usable breakfasts
For this example only, assume the package covers both adults on each usable morning. Each would otherwise spend $25 total on breakfast. If you would buy something cheaper, substitute that smaller amount for $25 in this comparison.
Compare the package with the room-only stay plus the breakfasts you would buy separately:
| Mornings for both | Food spending avoided | Net trip cost |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | $250 | $50 less |
| 4 | $200 | Break even |
| 3 | $150 | $50 more |
The table uses only the invented inputs above. The calculation is mornings × 2 adults × $25, compared with the $200 premium. In the three-morning case, an early outing and departure morning keep both adults from using the meal. Those are scenario assumptions, not actual hotel or tour schedules.
Walk through your mornings in My Trip. Count each person separately if your plans differ. Breakfast bought on a missed morning belongs in both alternatives, so it is not a package saving. Subtract any extra meal costs the package leaves you paying, while avoiding double-counting tax or tips.
Check the actual meal
The Royal Kona Resort pre-purchase offer illustrates why the inclusion matters: its offer text lists an à la carte entrée, excluding Loco Moco, with one juice and coffee or hot tea. That specific meal may differ from what you intended to order.
Before paying, ask the property which guests and ages are covered, where and when breakfast is served, and whether an early-departure takeaway is available. Confirm tax and gratuity, any credit limit, and what happens to unused benefits. Use the terms for your exact room and rate.
Choose the meal you want before assigning value to a breakfast package.
Leave room for preference
You might choose the package even when it costs more because you want an easy hotel breakfast. Price that preference honestly; do not rearrange a day just to make prepaid food look like a saving.
