Episode 54 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption ended at 7:33 p.m. HST on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after 9 hours of continuous lava fountaining. The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory end notice lowered Kīlauea from WATCH to ADVISORY and the Aviation Color Code from ORANGE to YELLOW after the fountain stopped.
The north-vent fountain peaked near 500 feet (150 meters) above ground between 12:15 and 1 p.m., and its plume reached about 17,000 feet (5,200 meters) above sea level. Neither the south vent nor the new west vent fountained. Most tephra fell in the park’s closed area southwest of the vents, but HVO received one report of trace Pele’s hair in the Kaʻū district. There is no active lava fountain now, so check the live cameras and current HVO status rather than making a lava-specific drive based on Episode 54.
