When it is time to remove it, place it somewhere respectful or ask the giver or event staff what is appropriate. Do not leave fresh lei on a beach, trail, monument, or tree; introduced plant material, wire, pins, and string do not belong in the landscape.
Treat the official program as the anchor and Kapiʻolani Park access as a separate logistics decision. Arrive early enough that a full lot or bus delay does not erase the part of the program you value most.
Keep a walkable Waikīkī or Honolulu backup if rain changes outdoor programming. Lei Day should improve the trip, not force unsafe parking or a rushed drive across the island.
The most useful visit combines the lei exhibit with cultural demonstrations, music or hula that the current program actually confirms. Give each part time rather than moving through only for photographs.
Other islands and community groups may publish their own May Day or Lei Day events. Use Hawaii Guide’s Hawaii events hub to find the maintained island owners, then confirm the organizer’s current date and venue.
Reopen the official city page. Confirm the year, hours, location, entry rules, transit or parking notes, weather plan, and whether any desired activity needs advance registration. If a detail is still unpublished, leave it open instead of filling the gap with last year’s schedule.
