Hanapepe Things To Do
Things to Do near Hanapepe on Kauai
Plan Hanapepe as a town stop for galleries, shops, and food. Do not build the day around a Salt Pond beach visit or a canyon drive while their recovery closures remain in force.
Come for galleries and lunch during the day, or time your visit around Friday evening when Hanapepe's art walk brings more energy to the main street.
1. Walk Hanapepe Town
Hanapepe town has a compact main street with galleries, small shops, and plantation-era storefronts. It is a good low-key stop when you want a break from driving.
2. Hanapepe Art Night
Hanapepe Art Night is the town's best-known weekly event, with galleries and local vendors drawing more foot traffic on Friday evenings. Confirm the current schedule before planning a trip around it.
3. Swinging Bridge
The Hanapepe Swinging Bridge is a short walk from town and adds a bit of old-Kauai character to the stop. Use care on wet days and follow any posted access signs.
4. Salt Pond Beach Park: Closed
Salt Pond Beach Park and its pavilions remain closed in the County’s October 19 recovery update. Leave this stop out of your current itinerary; calm-looking water does not override a park closure.
5. Check Restrictions Before Adding the Canyon
You can compare a town stop in Waimea, but DLNR’s recovery notice keeps Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe state parks closed. HDOT also restricts Kōkeʻe Road beyond its Waimea Canyon Drive junction to local traffic. Check Travel Alerts and HDOT before planning an upland extension; a road-junction reopening does not reopen the parks.

How to Plan Your Time in Hanapepe
Allow: 2–3 hours for a town stop; confirm individual opening hours. Best for: A small-town walk, local art, and a West Side food stop.
Choose a different plan if: You need a beach or upland park day; Salt Pond, Waimea Canyon, and Kokee remain closed during recovery.
Hawaii Guide's recommended order
- Hanapepe town: Walk the main blocks and confirm any event schedule before building the day around it.
- Swinging Bridge: Follow posted access signs and leave this stop out if access is restricted.
- Check current closures: Leave Salt Pond Beach Park and its pavilions out while the closure remains in force.
Planning tip: Keep a town visit independent of the closed beach and upland parks; an open road junction does not establish park access.
