The ferry ticket only solves the channel crossing. Decide what you will do after arrival before you leave Maui. A beach-focused day, a prearranged shuttle, and an island tour require different timing. Trying to combine Pearl Harbor, Waikīkī, and a circle-island drive creates a bus-window tour of Oʻahu rather than a useful visit.
A packaged fly-and-tour day can reduce the handoffs, but read the inclusions line by line. Confirm that the fare includes the interisland flights, airport transfers on Oʻahu, admissions for the named stops, and a realistic return connection. Why Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island Need a Night
Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island are tempting because the air segment looks short. The problem begins after landing. Waimea Canyon and the Nāpali Coast are not airport attractions. Neither are Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, the Kona coast, or the island's major scenic drives.
For either island, protect at least one night and rent the car there. That turns the airport transfer into the start of a real island stay instead of a clock running against every stop. What About Molokaʻi?
Do not plan around a Maui-to-Molokaʻi passenger ferry yet. The regulated passenger-ferry route currently connects Maui and Lānaʻi. Maui County is developing a future public ferry program for Maui County islands, but the county ferry project is still a program in development, not a visitor schedule. Treat Molokaʻi as an air itinerary unless an official operating notice says otherwise.

- Count door to door, not runway to runway. Include the hotel departure, security, ground transportation, and return buffer.
- Pick one anchor experience. A day trip works when one place matters enough to justify the transfer.
