In ancient Hawaiian legend this large, black mass of lava was where the souls of the dead leaped into the arms of the gods named Pu'u Keka'a.
Black Rock (Puʻu Kekaʻa) fronts the Sheraton at Kāʻanapali Beach. Choose a lifeguarded beach and ask about current conditions before entering the ocean. Hawaii Ocean Safety advises snorkeling only if you are an experienced ocean swimmer. Do not jump from the rocks; waves, currents and changing depths can cause serious injury. Plan to view the coastline from a permitted shore location and obey barriers. For parking and facilities, read the Kāʻanapali Beach guide.
Before any ocean activity, review Hawaii Ocean Safety and its snorkeling precautions.
