Kapalua Beach on Maui
Located in Kapalua Bay in Northwest Maui
Kapalua Bay is a white-sand crescent on Maui's northwest coast. It was named America's Best Beach in 1991 and 2018. The scenery makes it a worthwhile shoreline stop, but an award or a sheltered shape does not guarantee safe ocean conditions.
Kapalua Bay has no lifeguards. For swimming, choose a lifeguarded beach, ask about conditions and stay out when unsure. Stay out when surf, wind, shore break or currents are dangerous, and obey warning signs.
Snorkel only if you are an experienced ocean swimmer; go with a buddy and check conditions before entering. Read Hawaii Ocean Safety’s snorkeling precautions and ocean safety guidance. Keep children within reach near the water. Bring drinking water and confirm restroom and shower availability before visiting.

Follow signs for public beach access at Kapalua Bay and check the posted parking rules before leaving your car. Do not assume that nearby resort or restaurant parking is available to beach visitors.
For another shoreline stop, compare Napili Bay Beach and Oneloa (Ironwoods) Beach. Check conditions at each beach; do not assume a neighboring bay will have calmer water.
