Booking a boat tour early in your Hawaii stay leaves room to try again. But Thursday is not a useful backup for Wednesday if Thursday already holds a reservation you cannot afford to abandon.

This is an invented planning example, not a real operator’s schedule or policy. Assume every time is Hawaii time and the second activity requires 48 hours’ notice for a refund:
By the time you learn about the cancellation, the other activity’s deadline is 22 hours behind you. A refund for Wednesday’s boat does not recover the money you would forfeit by abandoning Thursday’s booking under these assumed terms.
A blank-looking afternoon does not solve a morning clash. Compare the replacement tour’s check-in and finish with your other commitments, including the journey between them.

Actual terms vary. Capt Andy’s FAQ lists different guest-cancellation thresholds for catamarans and rafts: the longer notice requirement begins at ten passengers on catamarans but eight on rafts. Copy the rule for your party and vessel, not a remembered rule from another trip.
Holo Holo’s published policy distinguishes an operator weather cancellation, which receives a full refund, from a changed route announced at check-in, when guests can continue, reschedule, or receive a refund. That policy describes Holo Holo; it is not a Hawaii-wide rule. Use the terms attached to your exact booking and booking channel.

A coast you want to see can shape the trip without consuming every remaining day.
If the boat is your priority, leave the backup slot unbooked or fill it with a plan you can drop without losing a payment. If the other reservation matters more, keep it and accept that a canceled boat trip may end with a refund rather than another sailing. Neither choice needs a second speculative boat reservation.
