Kauai events in December 2026 give visitors four useful planning dates: December 4, 12, 13, and 19. The first two center on Līhuʻe, the third belongs to Poʻipū, and the final parade shifts the trip west to Waimea.

That geography is the trip-planning story. Pick the event that fits your base instead of turning a holiday evening into a long island crossing. We include events with current dated listings, but check each organizer's page again close to travel.

The 2026 Lights on Rice Parade starts at 6:30 p.m. The Rotary Club of Kauaʻi's event page places the route from Hoolako Street near Ace Hardware to the Historic County Building.

The organizer describes about 60 parade units and 3,000 performers. Treat those as the current organizer's scale estimate, not a crowd forecast. Arrive before 5:30 p.m. and park legally outside the route. The County of Kauaʻi has not posted its detailed 2026 traffic advisory yet; use that notice for final road-closure and parking details when it appears.

The 2nd Saturday Night Market is listed for Saturday, December 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Kress Street. The current listing describes more than 40 local vendors, food trucks, baked goods, live entertainment, and free admission.

Keep the day open, use the market for dinner and locally made gifts, then leave the rest of the night uncommitted. The Downtown Līhuʻe calendar identifies the recurring night market but does not yet publish a detailed December program, so check it again before travel.

On Sunday, December 13, GoHawaii lists the Beach House Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside the Beach House Restaurant in the Poʻipū area. The listing describes more than 40 vendors selling locally made clothing, jewelry, photographs, paintings, traditional Hawaiian crafts, and food items.

The fair fits a South Shore morning. Do not drive from the North Shore solely for a four-hour market. Pair it with a day you already want in Poʻipū or Kōloa, after checking the weather and current event listing.

The producer's listing for the 26th Waimea Light Parade schedules the event for Saturday, December 19. Its start time and GoHawaii's differ by 15 minutes, so we are not using either as a firm planning time. The producer says road closures begin at 5 p.m. A Kauaʻi Festivals page with a legacy 2023 URL is currently titled “2026 Annual Waimea Light Parade” and lists live entertainment at Hofgaard Park beginning at 8:30 p.m. Plan to be in town before the closure and check the producer's event listing again before travel.

Treat this as the West Side date. If Waimea Canyon or Kōkeʻe is already in the day plan, return to town with enough margin for changing upland weather and the 5 p.m. closure. Otherwise, build the evening around Waimea itself rather than squeeze the parade behind a distant island day.

Poʻipū is our resort-base pick over Princeville or Hanalei for this date. From farther north, decide whether the parade justifies the after-dark return drive before committing.

The festival site has not yet posted a clearly dated full 2026 program. The festival's current homepage still shows 2024 season artwork, and its schedule page does not explicitly call itself the 2026 program. The December 4 parade is confirmed; check the festival site before planning to attend both Lights on Rice and the Festival of Lights that evening.

The Kauai Festival of Lights does publish a standing schedule: exterior lights from the first Friday in December through New Year, with the interior display open Friday through Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. through Christmas Eve and one final evening on the last weekend in December. Use that as a planning reference, not a dated 2026 promise.

A recurring December tradition is not a 2026 appointment until the organizer posts the current date.

Līhuʻe or the Coconut Coast is best positioned for Lights on Rice on December 4 and the night market on December 12.

Poʻipū or Kōloa is the cleanest fit for the December 13 craft fair and a reasonable starting point for Waimea on December 19.

A Princeville or Hanalei base can still work, but none of the four dated events is there. Keep the schedule flexible enough for December weather and the longer after-dark return.
