For trip planning, anchor your calendar to the World Surf League’s Lexus Pipe Masters listing for Dec. 8–20, 2026 at Pipeline. The event is marked upcoming. Those dates are a holding period, not a promise of competition every day.

Reserve one flexible North Shore day inside that window only if the coast already belongs in your Oʻahu itinerary. Do not book a nonrefundable trip around a single heat day. If the contest is off, you should still have a worthwhile day in Haleʻiwa and at safely accessible shoreline viewpoints. If it is on, follow the organizer’s current call instead of an old calendar.

The City and County of Honolulu’s 2026–27 North Shore surf-event calendar reserves these permit periods: Sunset Pro from Nov. 18–28, Haleʻiwa Pro from Nov. 29–Dec. 12, a Pipeline event from Dec. 8–20, and Haleʻiwa International Open from Dec. 22–Jan. 4. The calendar allocates four competition days to each event.

Notice the overlaps. A permit window tells organizers when an event may run; it does not create twelve or thirteen consecutive days of competition. The current WSL event page is the source for the Lexus Pipe Masters name, status, and Dec. 8–20 window. The city calendar calls its Dec. 8–20 entry “Vans Pipe Masters,” while WSL calls the current event Lexus Pipe Masters. The matching window and venue point to a sponsor-name update, so use WSL for current branding and the city calendar for the wider permit picture.

The Eddie is not a confirmed 2026–27 event announcement. Honolulu’s calendar includes Waimea Bay reservations for the event, but the official Eddie site still displays 2025–26 material. The event runs only when wave faces are expected to reach a consistent 40 feet during its holding period. A city reservation alone should not change your booking.

WSL identifies the Lexus Pipe Masters as Championship Tour Event 12. That makes Dec. 8–20 the clearest confirmed contest window for visitors planning December days on the North Shore. Plan for crowding, parking pressure, and traffic around ʻEhukai Beach Park when competition is called on.

The practical decision is not “Which December day will the contest run?” No one can answer that responsibly this far out. Decide whether you want one adaptable North Shore day during the holding period, then make the final venue decision from the official event status and ocean forecast within 48 hours of your planned North Shore day.

Start with a base day of no more than two or three coast stops. Haleʻiwa can be the meal and reset point; Waimea Bay, ʻEhukai Beach Park, or Sunset Beach can be a viewing stop when access and lifeguard guidance allow. Save the plan in My Trip, but keep the afternoon loose. Avoid pairing the North Shore with a fixed airport departure, a Waikīkī dinner you cannot move, or a timed attraction across the island. If heats do not run, shift to the safer shoreline choices in your base plan rather than chasing rumors between venues.

Pipeline breaks in front of ʻEhukai Beach Park. The State Film Office lists the beach fronting Pipeline. Current competition operations may affect where spectators can stand, so follow WSL and on-site instructions.

Haleʻiwa is the western anchor of the coast and the setting for two reserved contest periods. It remains useful when competition is off, which makes it a better planning anchor than an unofficial heat forecast.

Two days before: open the official event page and confirm its status, venue, and next-call information. Do not rely on a search-result date or a social post detached from the organizer’s current page.

The evening before: read the National Weather Service Honolulu surf forecast for the north-facing shore, then compare it with our live Hawaii Ocean Report. The forecast explains the hazard and likely surf; only the organizer can declare competition on.

The morning of: check the organizer again, screenshot the latest notice, and look for parking or spectator instructions. Once at the beach, posted signs, lifeguards, and event staff outrank the plan you made at the hotel.

Kamehameha Highway links Haleʻiwa, Waimea Bay, Pipeline, and Sunset Beach. Allow substantial extra time because congestion can occur on a major swell or contest day. Leave early, use only legal parking, and never stop in a travel lane or block a driveway. If the nearest lot is full, continue to a lawful alternative rather than improvising on the shoulder.

TheBus Route 60 covers the Haleʻiwa–Pūpūkea–Turtle Bay corridor. It is scheduled public transit, not a dedicated contest shuttle. Open the current TheBus route listings for Route 60’s latest timetable and leave a wide margin.

A rental car provides more flexibility when you have a driver willing to skip a full lot and move on. You can compare rental-car options through Discount Hawaii Car Rental. Internal trip flexibility matters more than choosing a vehicle for prohibited roadside parking.

North Shore winter surf can be powerful and dangerous. Hawaii Ocean Safety explains that winter brings the largest surf to north- and west-facing shores. On an elevated-surf day, watch from an area approved by lifeguards and event staff. Do not wade for a photo, enter the shorebreak, or stand on wet rocks.

Keep children well back from the waterline and never turn your back on the ocean. A dry patch of sand is not proof that the next set will stop there. Ask a lifeguard where spectators should stand, and move immediately if guards or organizers clear an area.

Skip drones unless the current organizer and every applicable authority clearly permit the flight. Competition operations, crowds, and emergency response make an event day a poor time to improvise. Binoculars, water, sun protection, and a light rain layer are more useful.

Three details remain conditional. First, the WSL window is confirmed, but individual competition days and heat times depend on the event call. Second, the city’s other permit periods are planning signals, not substitutes for a current organizer announcement. Third, the Eddie’s official site has not yet replaced its 2025–26 material with a 2026–27 announcement.

A no-contest day is not a failed North Shore day. The coast, Haleʻiwa, and winter ocean viewing can still justify the trip when conditions and access allow. Competition is the upgrade, not the single point of failure.
