The parade has commemorated Pearl Harbor survivors and the December 7, 1941 attack since 1998. Its non-competitive procession includes local and mainland marching bands, service bands, military units, officials, dignitaries, and entertainers. Participating groups also take part in Pearl Harbor remembrance activities during their week on Oʻahu.

The practical boundary is just as important: the current public 2026 information does not list a step-off time, final lineup, or city traffic plan. Treat older timetables as history, not this year's schedule. The organizer's homepage is the first page to recheck before you lock in plans around the parade.

The official parade route begins at Fort DeRussy Park, follows Kalākaua Avenue for about 1.5 miles, and ends at Kapiʻolani Park. That turns a simple route map into a lodging decision.

Fort DeRussy and Waikīkī Beach Walk: choose the west end if seeing the parade near its starting point matters most. It also fits hotels near Hilton Hawaiian Village, Fort DeRussy, and Beach Walk. Once the parade passes, make plans on the west side instead of trying to cross the full route.

Central Waikīkī: choose the middle if your hotel is between Royal Hawaiian Avenue and Kaiulani Avenue. This is the easiest option for most first-time visitors because the room, beach, and viewing position stay within a short walk. Expect the center of Kalākaua Avenue to be the least forgiving place for a last-minute rideshare.

Kapiʻolani Park: choose the Diamond Head end if you want the closing stretch or are staying near the zoo and park. Build your plans around this side of Waikīkī. Walking back west after the parade is reasonable; asking a car to cut across the route is not.

A rental car can still earn its place on a wider Oʻahu trip. It does not earn its place on Kalākaua Avenue during a parade. Keep your parade plans inside one Waikīkī zone, and do not decide where to park until the organizer or city publishes the closure plan.
