The summer ocean pattern is in full effect: south shores run their summer swell (great month for a surf lesson in Waikiki), while the north shores that rage all winter stay calm and snorkelable. July is one of the busiest months of the year in Hawaii, and the Fourth of July week is the single busiest stretch of the summer. It's family season — full resorts, busy beaches, sold-out luaus. Fireworks first: the Fourth of July is a legitimately big night in Hawaii, with shows on every major island — our Fourth of July guide ranks the best places to watch.
