August is the hot one. Daytime highs push into the high 80s — the warmest stretch of the year alongside September — and nights stay balmy in the 70s, made for luaus and beach walks. It's also a dry month by Hawaii standards (see the full weather guide), with one trade-off: less rain means lower flows at the waterfalls, so don't expect winter's thundering cascades on the Road to Hāna.
Two practical notes. First, elevation still bites — Haleakalā and Mauna Kea trips need a jacket and long pants, even in August. Second, August sits in the most active stretch of Central Pacific hurricane season, which runs June through November.
